Fairfax County’s Best Breweries

Grain, Water, Yeast and Hops. Those four ingredients are so collaborative. On a larger scope though, in just a matter of a decade, the beer brewing industry has gone from a nationwide monopoly of about 6 major breweries to a paradise for craft brewers. Let’s take a closer look at the top five best Breweries in Fairfax County, Virginia!

Caboose Brewery

Beer is an essential part of the American culture. In the 19th century and into the early 20th century, every town had their own brewery to provide beer for the locals. These beers were usually accompanied by the local or regional specialty cuisine. Great beverages are the cornerstone of Caboose Brewery. They craft each of their beers in their 15 barrel brewhouse and serve it fresh to you on premise. Their goal is to provide the small-town pub atmosphere in a modern environment with a wide variety of beers and foods. Everything they serve is skillfully crafted on premise – from the appetizers to the beer. They strive to use local ingredients in everything they make, tying their business to the community in a meaningful way.

Fair Winds Brewing Company

They built Fair Winds Brewing Company to provide fresh, local, flavorful craft beers to our neighbors and friends in Fairfax County and throughout the Commonwealth and the District of Columbia. They don’t believe in one-size-fits-all; instead they believe that craft beer, like food, should complement the moment and add to the overall experience. Their almost 13,000 square foot facility is complete with a fully operational packaging brewery featuring a 30 barrel brew house and expansive taproom. They officially opened their taproom doors on March 4, 2015 and have been sailing with flying colors since.

Mustang Sally Brewing Company

Mustang Sally Brewing Company is an independent craft brewery located in Chantilly, Virginia with a large open tasting room and exceptional line-up of craft beers. They have a huge (more than 4,000 sq ft) open Tasting Room with Private Event spaces and a variety of seating options (tables, counter seating, comfortable lounge areas), games, food from Chamos and, of course, exceptional beers.  They are opening their Outdoor Patio in the Spring!

Ono Brewing Company

Ono Brewing Company is a family business owned by husband and wife, Scott and Cyndi Hoffman. “Ono” means “delicious” or “tasty” in Hawaiian and was chosen because of their deep connections to Hawaii. Cyndi’s mother was born and raised in Kahuku, Oahu. Scott and Cyndi were fortunate to return to Cyndi’s family roots, enjoying their first years of marriage living in Hawaii. After Hawaii, Scott and Cyndi returned to Florida, where they met in college, and Scott’s love of home-brewing was first kindled. Scott and Cyndi have called Northern Virginia home since 2011. However, they have come to miss the laid-back atmosphere of Hawaii where everyone is on “Island time” and Florida where sandals are worn year-round. They strive to bring a little bit of that relaxing vibe to Virginia, albeit without the sand and surf.

Mad Fox Brewing Company

Mad Fox Brewing Company launched in July 2010 with the opening of their European-style Gastro Brewpub in Falls Church, VA, which also houses their brewery.  They are proud to provide a unique dining experience that pairs their handcrafted, award-winning beer with an appealing menu created in a scratch kitchen using locally-sourced and sustainable products whenever possible. All of their craft beers are brewed on-site using the finest ingredients sourced from across the country and internationally as well. Their kitchen strives to use fresh ingredients from local farms and butchers in preparing its creative offerings. Taste the difference with their appealing brewpub menu featuring hand-tossed artisan pizzas, creative burgers, signature frickles, weekly specials and more. Taste their cask conditioned proper Real Ales served through water-jacketed Angram beer engines which ensure that every pint is served at properly conditioned cellar temperatures.

A good brew is a chemistry experiment. As you tour the brewhouses in Fairfax, VA, make it your aim not just to taste, but to appreciate the craft of the men who make the beer. It is a work that is complex, yet simple, tasty, yet refreshing. Enjoy your brewery tour!
